New to BX1 or looking for a specific way to train? These are the questions we’re asked most often about adult and kids classes, boxing, memberships, personal training and visiting our Neutral Bay gym.

I’m a complete beginner. Which class should I start with?

Beginners are very welcome at BX1. If you want to learn boxing technique, Boxing Fundamentals is the best place to start. If your main goal is fitness and cardio, one of our BoxFit or HIIT-style classes may suit you better. If you’re unsure, our team can help you choose the right class for your goals and experience.

I’m out of shape or haven’t trained for a while. Can I still start at BX1?

Yes. You don’t need to be fit before you start — getting fitter is part of the process. Our coaches encourage you to work at an appropriate pace and build your fitness, strength and confidence progressively. Let your coach know if you’re returning after a long break or have any injuries or limitations.

Can I try BX1 before joining?

Yes. We offer two Starter Packs designed specifically for new members:

FIRST TIMER — 2 classes to use within 7 days for $40, plus a free pair of hand wraps. If you join within 24 hours of your final trial class, the $40 is credited towards your joining fee.

BX1 TOUR — 5 classes to use over 4 weeks, giving you the opportunity to experience a range of BX1 classes. If you join within 24 hours of completing your Tour, your joining fee is waived.

What do I need to bring to my first class?

Wear comfortable training clothes and suitable athletic shoes and bring a water bottle. For boxing-based classes you’ll need hand wraps and boxing gloves.

Gloves are available to hire or purchase at BX1 if you don’t have your own and hand wraps can be purchased at reception. First Timer 2 Pack members receive a free pair of hand wraps, while BX1 Tour members receive 15% off the purchase of boxing gloves.

Can I buy boxing gear, karate uniforms and BX1 merchandise at the gym?

Yes. The BX1 Shop at reception stocks selected boxing and martial arts gear, including boxing gloves, hand wraps, boxing boots, karate uniforms and belts, WKF-approved karate gloves, mouthguards, shin guards, head guards and BX1 merchandise.

Stock, sizes and colours may vary, so please ask the team if you’re looking for something specific.

Our BX1 Online Shop is coming soon, making it even easier to browse and purchase gear and BX1 merchandise online.

How long are BX1 classes?

Class duration varies by program. Adult technical classes are generally 60 minutes, while cardio boxing and HIIT-style sessions are usually 45–50 minutes.

For kids, Little Ninjas (ages 3–5) are 30 minutes, Little Samurai (ages 6–8) are 40 minutes, and Junior classes (ages 9–11) are generally 45 minutes.

Private training sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, depending on the session and training focus.

I’ve done some boxing before. Do I still need to attend a Boxing Fundamentals class?

If you’ve boxed before, you may not need to start from the very beginning. Boxing Fundamentals is still a good first session at BX1, as it gives our coaches a chance to see where you’re at and make sure you’re placed in the most suitable class going forward.

What is sparring and is it compulsory?

Sparring is controlled partner training that allows boxers to practise timing, distance, defence and technique in a more realistic setting.

Sparring is not compulsory at BX1. It is introduced only when appropriate and under coach supervision, based on your experience, ability and training goals.

Do you train amateur and professional fighters?

Yes. BX1 has an active amateur fight team and also works with professional fighters. We support athletes who want to train seriously, develop their boxing skills and prepare for competition.

BX1 is affiliated with Boxing Australia, and our experienced coaching team can guide suitable athletes through structured training, sparring and competition preparation.

If you’re an experienced boxer or interested in competing, speak with our coaching team so we can discuss the most appropriate training pathway for you.

Do you offer private and small-group training?

Yes. BX1 offers both 1:1 Personal Training and Small-Group Private Training.

Private sessions provide focused coaching tailored to your individual goals, whether you want to improve boxing or martial arts technique, fitness, strength, self-defence or overall performance.

Small-group private training gives you many of the benefits of personalised coaching while allowing you to train with friends, family or training partners in a small, focused group.
