Our Kids Martial Arts Story

FROM MOSMAN MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY TO BX1

BX1’s kids martial arts program began in 2013 as Mosman Martial Arts Academy, inspired by a 7-year-old’s love of martial arts. What began as a dedicated children’s academy grew into today’s BX1 Gym, bringing karate, boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, strength and fitness together under one roof in Neutral Bay.

The name and training space have evolved, but the purpose has remained the same: skilled coaching, genuine progression and a welcoming place where children can build confidence while enjoying the process.

KIDS CLASSES FAQ

A Few Things Parents Often Ask

Does my child need previous martial arts experience?

BX1 welcomes complete beginners and children with previous experience. Each program introduces skills progressively, and the team recommends an age-appropriate starting class.

Which class should my child start with?

The best starting point depends on age, interests and previous experience. BX1 can recommend a suitable class before the trial. Kids Karate begins at age 3, while Junior Boxing, Junior Muay Thai and White Tigers MMA begin at age 9, and Junior Strength & Weights begins at age 11.

Does BX1 offer school pick-up from Neutral Bay Public School?

During NSW school terms, BX1 offers an optional supervised walking pick-up from Neutral Bay Public School to BX1 for children attending confirmed Kids classes Monday to Friday. A parent or guardian arranges the service in advance, completes the BX1 permission form at reception and provides the school with any required release authority. School pick-up is booked and paid for separately from Kids membership, with exact arrangements provided privately to registered families.

What if my child feels shy, nervous or finds it difficult to focus?

Starting something new can feel like a big step, and every child settles in differently. Please let the BX1 team know before the trial so the coach can welcome your child and support them from the beginning. For younger children, a parent or guardian is welcome to join in during the first lessons. We can also offer additional complimentary settling-in classes when helpful. Familiar routines, small achievable steps and plenty of positive encouragement help children build confidence, focus and independence at their own pace.

What should my child wear to a trial?

Comfortable sports clothing is suitable for a first visit. Bring water, and the BX1 team will explain any program-specific uniform or equipment as your child continues.

Can my child train in more than one discipline?

Children can train across different BX1 disciplines according to age and class suitability, including Karate, Junior Boxing, Junior Muay Thai, White Tigers MMA and Junior Strength & Weights. Combining suitable programs can build a broader range of skills.

Can I watch my child during their class?

Yes. We understand that parents and guardians often like to see how their child is settling in. You are welcome to watch the class on the live television at reception, which shows the training area. If a younger child feels nervous at first, a parent or guardian is welcome to join in during the first lessons to help them feel comfortable. As their confidence grows, our coaches gently encourage them to participate more independently at a pace suited to their age.

Do BX1 Kids classes run during school holidays?

BX1 runs an adjusted Kids timetable during NSW school holidays. Children on ongoing plans may attend eligible holiday classes according to the current timetable, age suitability and capacity. Families can check and book current sessions through the BX1 Gym app.

What safety checks and qualifications do BX1 Kids coaches hold?

All BX1 instructors hold current Working With Children Checks and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications. Coaches working with children also complete child safeguarding training. Classes use age-appropriate groups, progressive instruction, matted training areas and suitable equipment.

Where is BX1 located and where can we park?

BX1 is at Shop G3-G4, 140 Military Road, Neutral Bay NSW 2089. Parking is available within a short walk at Big Bear Shopping Centre, Grosvenor Street Coles and Woolworths on Rangers Road, with street parking also available subject to posted restrictions.
